It’s a new season and this fall’s 2020 hairstyle trends are low-maintenance looks and cuts that enhance hair texture. We may not be readying ourselves for major events this holiday season, but root touch-ups can go a long way on those Zoom calls.

RM’s Top 3 Fall Hair Trends…

Versatile Cuts that Leave Room to Grow:

fall-hair-trends-2020-lob-haircut

  1. It’s a fall hair fact that post quarantine hair disasters have us going back to the root of who we are, emphasizing our natural color palette. Fall 2020 styles opt for staying chic, even as hair continues to grow out. From versatile clavicle-length cuts, perfect for naturally wavy layers, to choppy pixies that leave room for growth, it’s never too late to FALL in love with your hair!

Going Red

2. Red has always been a fall hair color staple. Finding the right hue of red for your skin is critical. The right colorist can tell you exactly which red can best suit you. Lastly, find someone who specializes in reds. Getting the right shade of red and covering your current tone (depending on your starting point), takes major skills.

3. Eland Bentov, one of the top hairstylists in Miami, shared insider tips for the most popular hair trends of the season, including a fall must that should be on your radar, bangs!

“Curtain bangs are a great way to create a subtle change when wanting to try a new look. They frame your face and create an effortless style. A perfect intro to the typical fringe, since they can easily be pushed to the side if you aren’t feeling the look that day.”

Male Grooming 101: Salon vs BarberShop

mens-hair-salon

The age-old question remains, why should men consider upscale salons? Well, it’s not about the so-called “bougie” haircut, but instead, it’s the curated level of service, attention to detail, and relationships one builds with stylists in salons. Let’s dive into the difference: Barbershops vs. Hair Salons.

Men have become a multibillion-dollar growth sector for the beauty industry. According to the International Spa Association, in 2017, 49% of spa customers were men, which is up from 29% in 2005. In fact, in a market report published by Allied Market Research, global markets forecasted garnering $166 billion for the men’s personal care space by 2022. Why? Because men are embracing whole body wellness, and we are here for it!

Does the question then become how to choose between a barbershop vs a salon? Here are three reasons why a salon can be better suited to meet your needs, than the barbershop.

barbershop-vs-hair-salon

  1. Service: Salons provide a unique experience, allowing you to be pampered with a bevy of à la carte services like conditioning treatments and nail buffing to enhance the physique.

  1. Tools: It’s a common myth that only barbers are allowed to use straight razors for cutting and shaving. At RM hair salon in Miami Beach, we have stylists that hold both a barber AND cosmetologist licenses! Our stylists are artists held to a very high standard, which is evident in their work.

  1. Styling: From trimming curls to styling straight, salons bring the experience you can trust for your hair type. Barbers cater to short styles and clipper fades, but RM salon’s certified barber stylists understand the needs of your hair’s texture and will take the time to work with you on achieving your hair goals.

At RM Salon in Miami, we understand that experience resonates with men and women, so log onto our RM App and help the gentleman in you, stay sharp! Or Book Online here.

Why post- quarantine color isn’t “sticking”?

Weeks and weeks of cabin fever had everyone flocking to their hairdresser for a post-quarantine color and haircut.  After dying and dying, we hit what seemed like a conundrum. Colorists were treating hair that wouldn’t take on color dye! Clients were getting root touch-ups with grey not getting covered. Lucky for you, the best hair salon in Miami, Red Market, discovered the reason why.

During quarantine, many of us unknowingly started Pinteresting away our time, concocting innovative home hair care rituals. From applying a bit too much dry shampoo for those Zoom happy hours to covering up roots à la Eva Longoria with at-home root touch up kits, and fulfilling the natural healing trends with coconut oil follicle masks. Those social crazes got the best of us.

These “so-called” solutions caused a layer of sediment build-up on our scalp. Fast forward to post-quarantine styling and that build-up is preventing color from attaching to the hair follicles of those pesky greys. Clients were coming in to dye their hair with the top hair colorists in Miami and seeing grey roots sprouting just hours after their treatment.

It took a few clients to find the solution, but Red Market Miami hair salon made a remarkable discovery, _______ Clarifying Shampoo! Yes, SHAMPOO!

Using a clarifying shampoo 30 minutes before your coloring treatment, triple scrubs the roots of your hair follicles and cleans your scalp to prep your locks for color!

Chic Summer Hair Q&A with Natalie Fabian

summer-hair-tips

Summer sun means swimming, sand, and salt which can all be bitterly harsh elements on our hair. It’s important to remember hydration nourishes our strands during summer. Kerastase’s ‘7 Summer Hair Tips For for Protection In The Summer’ shines a light on how to avoid unnecessary dryness while indulging in summer fun, by minimizing seasonal damage from activities like heat styling, during summer. We sat down with Red Market Miami hair salon star colorist Natalie Fabian, for a conversation on how to keep summer hair chic.

Natalie is one of Red Market’s top hair colorists in Miami, whose unique talents are at the forefront of brightening every client’s shades. Trained by Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, California- Natalie went on to receive her Balayage training from RED MARKET NYC’s Reynald Ricard. Inspired by those ever-chic Cali blonde locks, Natalie has perfected blending tones with the French highlighting technique, Balayage. She uses her artistry to create shades of blonde that are soft and subtle, yet bold and bright. Fabian, is a certified Inoa colorist with extensive expertise working with Kerastase, Renee Furterer, and Davines. Natalie’s technique for formulating the perfect blonde has made her a trusted celebrity colorist for clients such as Elle Macpherson. She is our RM master at brightening your locks!

UV protection is critical to maintaining our skin healthy, is it possible to add SPF to our hair?

“Applying hair oil with an SPF  is very nourishing. It can counteract the stress of summer and also protect hair from harsh elements, like heat and sun. Oil coats the hair and gives it a protective shield, so it doesn’t soak up so much salt and chlorine when you swim. Hair oil is your friend all year round, but especially in the summer, even if it’s just for shine!”

Natalie, locking in moisture during Summer months seems like an impossible feat, hydrating products like masks are agents of protection we all know about, but are there any secret tricks of the trade you can share with us?

“The Evian Misting Spray is a great summer hair hack. It’s generally used to mist and cool you down by spraying your face and neck on a hot day, but I love to use it on hair too! Hair gets dried out from exposure to salt and sun, and this misting spray adds instant moisture when transitioning from the beach to your evening outing.”

Nighttime is a great opportunity to repair and restore hair, what should be our go-to evening hair care routine during Summer?

“Night Serums and hair masks are critical during the summer months. I recommend the  by Kerastase or the Moisture and Control mask by Oribe. With hair experiencing more stressors, treating it overnight allows for long-lasting hydration rather than a mid-day one-hour hair mask routine. Treat your hair like you treat your skin. If you put moisturizer on your skin at night, your hair should get the same TLC.”

Q & A with RM’s Rogelio Gonzalez

Curious what it’s like providing safe hair services in a post-COVID world? We sat down with Red Market Miami Salon co-owner Rogelio Gonzalez for a discussion on operating clean hair salons in our new normal and what this all means for you.

Rogelio is one of Red Market Miami’s top hair stylists who brings his unique talents and experience to the forefront of every client’s look. Trained by L’Oreal Professional and Kerastase, Gonzalez has been a trusted stylist for Miss Universe contestants and Wilhelmina models. He is an RM gem, who is ready to help you shine!

Rogelio, how is Red Market Salon looking towards the post-pandemic future?

“We are using our increased safety protocols as a tool to offer an even better experience for our guests. Since reopening under new guidelines, we have tremendously revamped how we serve guests. Going beyond a great cut and amazing color, it’s all about the experience from the moment a guest walks through the door to the contact-less checkout.”

Has RM taken this opportunity to discover any innovative technology?

“Much of the measures we have adopted post lockdown will remain in place well into the future. For example, we have fast-tracked our Red Market App that we intended to launch in 2021, now launching this summer. The App allows clients to easily book, text, and pay for services. This initiative will have our clients coming in and out most efficiently and luxuriously.”

What measures are being taken by Red Market to ensure post-pandemic safety?

“We are spacing out everyone’s appointments in a strategic manner so that it feels like a more exclusive service. We are disinfecting high-touch areas in front of guests so that the cleanliness makes our clients feel safe throughout their experience in the salon. We are also taking payment information at the time of booking, sending you a text when the services are completed, and running your credit card from our back office. Allowing us to decrease contact and reduce the need for a receptionist.”

Are there any exciting new treatments we should be trying?

“Keratin and Botox treatments are popular during the Summer!

Unlike a perm or relaxer, Keratin is more like a semi-permanent treatment that lasts around three months. The treatment creates a barrier between your hair and external factors, like heat and humidity. Keratin doesn’t remove curls, but it cuts down your straightening time. It’s a great option for clients who have healthy hair and are looking to have their natural curl and frizz smoothed out.

Hair Botox is a lighter version of Keratin. Using hydration, the Botox reverses damage to the cortex and cuticle of the hair making hair healthier and more manageable. The Botox penetrates the cuticle and fills in any damage to make hair shinier, sleeker, and stronger.”

The New Normal at Red Market Salon

self-confidence              noun

self-con·fi·dence | \ ˌself-ˈkän-fə-dən(t)s  , -ˌden(t)s \

: confidence in oneself and in one’s powers and abilities

The dictionary defines self-confidence as having a belief in one’s powers, which derives from the Latin word fidere’ meaning “to trust”; therefore, having self- confidence is about trusting in the power of YOU!

If these quarantined months have shown us anything, it’s that when we come face to face with challenging moments we find new ways to trust in ourselves. Discovering happiness comes in many shades, at Red Market Salon, we like to help your hair find its happy.

VOGUE’s May issue shines a light on the positive impacts salons have in our sense of ‘feeling good’ in day-to-day life. The article is titled, “How Hair Salons Will Be Transformed by the COVID-19 Pandemic.” While it’s understandable that families across the globe are facing pressing needs, people have “realized how much they rely on their salons as a comforting source of self-care and community.” We are longing for the positive ‘feel-good’ impact haircuts and color touch-ups have on our self-confidence, which leaves hair stylists and salons playing an invaluable role in our lives.

What we are Doing to Keep you Safe

At Red Market, we have always regarded our relationship with you, as essential! We are eager to get back to trimming and primming and are seeing results in our new meticulous reopening safety plan. From implementing additional cleaning measures and offering contactless checkout, to improving accommodations for accessibility with extended hours and reduced wait times.

We are proud to have taken the helm as one of the best clean hair salons in Miami. Our new set of operating guidelines reduces capacity and implements protective measures, which include: temperature checks upon arrival, launching a mask requirement policy for guests and stylists (stylists will also be wearing plastic shields and gloves), cutting capes will be washed and seal wrapped in plastic, and we have hired additional salon assistants to disinfect salon chairs.

At Red Market Salon we have established new sanitation strategies. Per social distancing mandates, we have spaced seating for styling stations six feet apart. Sanitizing, sterilizing, and plastic sealing brushes, cutting tools, and instruments will further ensure your health and safety. Of our six shampoo bowl chairs, we will only occupy two at a time, to guarantee keeping distance among clients. Furthermore, we will rotate shampoo bowls in use, to properly disinfect each bowl.

Everything you need to know about Keratin Treatments

keratin treatment- salon in miami

If you have curly hair or are prone to frizz, then you absolutely must get a keratin treatment this summer. Keratin treatments tame frizz and make your hair appear shinier and more tamed. They also cut down on the time you spend drying and styling your hair– and isn’t that what you want? Here are a few things you should know before getting your keratin treatment.

How Long Will Treatment Take?

There are certainly at-home keratin treatments you can try. But if you want it done right, you need the magic touch of a professional stylist. In a first class salon such as Red Market, you should expect treatment to last about 90 minutes. However it may vary depending on length and hair type.

How Long Will Keratin Treatment Last?

Keratin treatments will keep your hair manageable and frizz-free for 8 to 10 weeks after you receive your treatment with proper at home care, Chlorine and Sulphate containing products may affect the time your treatment stays intact. You will find your blow-drying time cut in half and easy hairstyles are even easier.

How Should I Maintain My Hair After A Keratin Treatment?

Depending on the Keratin used on your hair type, you may need to avoid washing your hair for four days after treatment, Red Market offers different types of keratin for different types of hair. But keep in mind, we are talking about 8 to 10 weeks of hair glory. So whether you are waiting 24 hours of 4 days, it is a small sacrifice many are happy to pay.

Experts recommend that you avoid shampoos with sodium-sulfates. But, shouldn’t you be doing that anyway? We can help you choose a shampoo for your hair type that will keep your keratin intact.

Something as complex as a Keratin treatment where each step of the process is crucial to the end result, it is best to go with a professional stylist.

An experienced professional will do the job properly, and will be able to offer a higher-end treatment than you can get from a box. Finally, as not all keratin treatments are alike, you should consult with a top hair stylist because the wrong treatment can alter the tone of your hair color.

If you are looking for a high-end salon in Miami to help you with your hair care needs, check out Red Market Hair Salon Miami. Red Market’s professional staff will create easy hairstyles that fit your personality and make you feel beautiful.

The Red Ombre: How to Get the Newest Color Trend

Fiery shades of ombre hair are all over the runway and on the pages of hottest fashion magazines this season. This is one trend you can get into, and keep your hair conservative enough that you will not have to hide it in a chignon at the office.

Short, chic hair can wear ombre in shaggy styles, with darker shades around the roots and neckline, progressing to lighter shades around the face. Your professional hair stylist can create unique Miami – sunset effect on short hair.

The use of a brush technique of sunset red around the neckline and root areas will begin the look. They will finish with an application with lighter highlights of golden red on the ends.

The color choice will depend on how bold or subtle you want your ombre look to be.

If your hair is medium length: Talk to your stylist about a blunt bob, in a golden red ombre. The classic bob cut gets an edgy lift as the strands go from bright copper to a deep warm golden blonde.

This color combination is ideal for lighter skin tones. For deeper skin tones: try a deep mahogany to light red. If your hair is wavy or curly in texture consider a concave bob with this color combination.

Long hair will obviously show more ombre progression. Ask your stylist to start with a deep cherry brown to ginger: if you have deep, cool toned skin. For lighter and warmer skin tones: consider a medium to light warm auburn progression. It will give you a sunny, youthful look without going blonde.

If your workplace is more progressive and casual: you can have fun with a fire red to orange ombre or a dramatic black cherry to red effect. For a very edgy look, your stylist can create a jagged ombre by wielding a smaller brush, and meticulously establishing a line using color clips.

Ombre is a hair color trend that works for almost any hair type. If you wear bangs, talk to your stylist about blending the color in and styling options for your bangs. They can also recommend the right products to maintain your new trendy hair.

The Right Haircut for your Face Shape

Sometimes, you just want a change. Changing your hairstyle is a great way to feel like every day has something new and exciting about it—but perhaps you’re feeling unsure about what looks will pair well with your face shape. How bold can you go before you can’t pull it off anymore? Here are some tips on the best haircut for your face shape.

Diamond

Bangs are great for diamond-shaped faces. They help to soften your face shape. This face shape does well with medium to chin length hairstyles, with a variety of textures and styles to choose from. The main thing for diamond shaped faces is to avoid too many layers in your style and to stay away from pixies and really short haircuts. This shorter hairstyles don’t balance well with this face shape.

Heart

Wavy long locks or fun, pixie cuts look great on a heart-shaped face. Shoulder-length hair also works well, but the general goal for people with this face shape is to frame their face well. Long bangs or choppy layers are great. Long, layer-less styles are not.

Square

Long hairstyles, shortcuts that frame the face, or blunt cuts that end below shoulder length do well for square faces. Side partings are best, but feathery bangs are doable as well. Long bands simply help to soften the jawline better on square faces. Stay far away from pixie cuts though!

Round

Round faces flourish when you choose haircuts that give the sense of lengthening the face. Long, medium and chin-length styles go well with round faces. Blunt cuts, straight fringe, and short bobs are not ideal cuts for this shape. Go for wispy or tapered edges.

Oval

This face shape is the ideal face shape. If you see a style you love, try it! Your face shape is compatible with any and all kinds of hairstyles.

The Evolution of Hair Braiding

Braids have come a long way since those tight pigtails from childhood. They have actually evolved into a sleek and grown-up way to contain long hair in a neat and professional manner. Not only are they a diverse and convenient choice, they are also one of the oldest hairstyles documented in history. This week Red Market Salon follows the evolution of hair braiding from Africa, to Europe, and beyond. The roots of braiding have been traced to West Africa where it began as a symbolic art form to denote culture, status, and tribe. Bridal up-dos with braids were considered the most complex forms, complete with intricate patterns and hair weaving. As with many ancient cultures, elders pass on knowledge to younger generations, and braiding was no exception. It was a very social tradition, with styles and techniques taught through the ages.

English braid

Traditional or English braid (LifeMartini)

Sometime later, the plait, or English braid, gained popularity in early Europe. Women of aristocracy wore elaborate, ornamented braids to signify their status, whereas working women used simpler braids to keep hair clean and contained. The plait is created by weaving three even sections of hair in and out of each other, beginning at the nape of the neck and descending down the back. This method is simple enough to try yourself and comfortable enough for all-day wear.

In early American history, Native Americans wore braids for its practical purpose of containing long hair. Over time, ornate braids became popular for religious rituals and war preparations, and were common in men and women alike.

French braid

French braid for wedding (hairstylesvane)

By the late 1800s, the French braid was in fashion. At that time, it was considered a “new” style, but in actuality it was discovered by travelers to North Africa. The French braid consists of weaving three strands, like the plait, but unlike the traditional braid, this style begins at the crown of the head. It is considered more elegant than plaiting because it involves a more complex technique, resulting in a more sophisticated appearance. There are also variations, such as Dutch and fishtail braids, that are constructed in a similar manner but consist of weaving the hair sections under, instead of over, creating an inverse braid.

modern milkmaid

A modern twist on a classic braid: crown-fishtail updo (8makeup)

Today, braids retain their popularity among women (and some men) as a practical and elegant hairstyle. The most basic style of braid today, by far, is the English braid, with Swiss or other wrapped braids as variations. Top (crown-only) and side braids are also in fashion, as often seen worn by celebrities. Aside from their convenience and versatility, another plus is the flowing waves that result the next day.

Have fun trying out different braids on your own or with a friend. And for that special occasion, be sure to make an appointment with Red Market Salon for the ultimate styling experience.
