The Red Market Balayage has become a signature service with a growing demand thanks to top colorist, Sonia Amani. This French-born technique has made its way from Paris and has ever so elegantly graced the hair of women looking to achieve the most natural highlighted locks. Balayage is an art form and a skill only a few colorists have mastered. A colorist, similar to a painter, uses a brush or comb to paint the hair, creating a more natural, youthful, sun-kissed lightness without the drying effects of foiling.
Master Balayage Artist, Sonia Amani, joined the Red Market Miami team more than two years ago. Since her arrival, Sonia’s talent in Balayage has gained the likes of the South Florida community, firmly making her one of the most sought after colorists in Miami.
An Exceptional Approach
Sonia’s Balayage skills are accompanied with her admirable service creating an unparalleled experience. Sonia begins with a detailed consultation and works with the client to carefully choose inspiration photos so that there is a full understanding of the desired color before beginning. Once her brush strokes begin, her talent for carefully placing each highlight is quickly apparent. She sensibly looks for where the sun may lighten one’s hair and works with the natural movement to strategically position highlights for the most organic look possible. Then, time to sit back, relax and relish in the great music and fun energy of Red Market Miami. During the processing time, Sonia or her assistant will check on the progression of the hair to determine the ideal time to rinse.
A Finish Fit for Perfection
Upon rinsing, Sonia will choose from one of the 35 purest pigments that will enhance her work and improve the appearance of the client’s hair. Sonia’s assistant adds the chosen pigment gloss to the shampoo for a shinier and healthier looking result. After a cut that is structured to boost the Balayage, a blow out finalizes the look and voila, perfectly highlighted hair that appears 100% natural.
The Best Colorists in Miami
The Red Market color department has been successfully expanding to provide clients even more of the leading and most talented colorists in the industry. Sonia’s addition to the team provides a dynamic and unique ingredient to the highly successful color services provided. Sonia has created stunning Ombre’s, flawless blondes, and beautifully sun-kissed brunettes. It’s obvious why her services remain a demand among the Miami locals and international visitors.

The Best Miami Hair Salon has a chat with Renaissance Woman, Jessica Keglovich, known for her couture styles, gorgeous make-up artistry and overall commitment to making people not only look great, but feel incredible too:
How did you get started in hair?
Growing up I went to the hair salon with my grandmother every Saturday. The ladies in the salon would do her hair, French braid mine and then her and I would go shopping. I just remember I loved being in that environment. So much so, that even though the salon had a little play area for the children who came in, the thing I remember most was never wanting to be in that room! My desires were to see what the stylists were doing behind the doors of the backroom, experiment with their tools and read every product’s label so I could gain all of the knowledge of what they did. I needed to know all about it! Through that time, my passion and interest only grew. By fifteen, after much persuasion to one of my best friend’s aunt who was a manager and hairstylist of a salon, finally allowed the two of us to work at her salon for a few hours on Saturdays. We started off small- basically just cleaning and sweeping hair. Which at the time, was the best thing ever! Then, eventually we got to wash hair, set styles and everything else an assistant would typically help with. An extra set of hands in a salon never go un-used for long! During that time, a top colorist from Izzazu asked me to come and assist him after seeing me work at the other salon. I started working for him, went to beauty school during high school and continued to work for that salon for twelve years where I perfected my skills. I had amazing mentors there.
How did you get started in make-up?
Well, I was always interested in make-up, but I started doing it professionally about nine years ago. I worked at a huge salon with a large staff so typically estheticians took the reigns of makeup. On occasion when a make-up artist wasn’t available, I would often step in. At about that point, I began doing make-up and styling for a local agency, which in turn, introduced me to the print world of fashion. Soon after, I was recommended to a really well known photographer who was looking for someone to do make-up and styling for his up coming shoot. The photographer and I ended up hitting it off really well. His team and I worked really well together and we shared the same philosophy for our arts, as well as the experience we try to offer our clients. Because of this, he began hiring me for his other productions which has really launched my career in the make-up artistry and production styling aspect. This new path has led me to be fortunate enough to travel abroad, of which I now typically do at least every few weeks.
What inspires you as an artist?
I honestly get inspired by really random things; people on the streets in the different cities I visit for work, paintings in art galleries, Andy Warhol for one, (who is a fellow Pittsburgh-er), and even the lifestyles of my clients. Anything and everything creative!
What kind of work do you do for special events?
As far as the special event styling and makeup, I work with a lot of high-end event planners, including a lot of work with bridal parties and red carpet events. Often times I’m styling in a new city for a person I’ve never met before, so I truly believe in getting to know the client, talking; bouncing ideas back and forth and customizing a look based on the individual. Whether it be a wedding, a bar/bat mitzvah or any other milestone moment, I always listen and consider the client’s preferences first. I draw inspiration on who they are as individuals- I look at what they are wearing for the event, where the event is, etc. Then, together we create their whole look with hair, make-up and even their wardrobe-down to their jewelry to complete the occasion.
In your opinion, what sets Miami apart from other cities?
I think what makes Miami unique is that there are so many influences from different backgrounds here. People from all over the world come to Red Market Miami seeking a “Miami vibe style.” So what we do as hair stylists certainly influences the world in that vibe, but we, in turn, are influenced by our customers as well. It’s so interesting to me to know that I have repeat clients from Brazil, Russia, Costa Rica, and other places. So what that says, is that our work is regularly walking the streets of all those cities. Whether it be in their local grocery stores buying groceries and going to work every day. Its cool to have an outreach like that. Our salon certainly has a lot of international influence- we don’t have just one kind of style or client. It all sort of melts together!
What is your definition of beauty?
Well first, I think real beauty starts from within and who you are as a whole. Whatever makes you feel incredible shines through from your soul and is reflected through your eyes. When you feel like you look incredible, you feel incredible and you have confidence. Beauty should be individual and inspired by you!
What are some of the things you like to do outside of the salon?
Outside of the salon, I love to spend time with my family, which is why I moved here. I also love to paint and cook. One of my favorite things to do on my own is turn on some music, set up my easel, open a bottle of wine and paint. When cooking, which I do often, especially with my family every Sunday, I always prefer a from-scratch or homemade recipe. Homemade meals and tradition are important to me. Whether it be in hairstyling or life, your foundation is key. You can’t know where you’re going unless you know where you’ve been!
If you could wake up anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I suppose if I wanted to disappear for a few days to do some mediation or chill out, I would definitely choose Princeville, Hawaii. However, when it comes to day-to-day life, I am totally happiest where I am right now- embarking on the Miami market. I’m blessed to have done so much traveling and experiencing so much throughout my career. I absolutely love it and couldn’t do without where the production life takes me, but being in the salon all day and working with my clients is where my passion began… and it still lies there.
What is your favorite thing about being a stylist?
I’ve been styling hair for 14 years now and while I absolutely have a passion for the technical aspect of styling, my favorite thing by far is making people feel good on the inside through what I can do as an artist on the outside.

Red Market is a high-end concept in hair salons with exclusive locations in NYC and Miami.
In order to keep your hair lustrous and healthy, there is a two-step process you must follow, whatever your hair type. First, you must cleanse (shampoo), then treat (condition). Red Market, a luxury hair salon in Miami offers Kerastase, a line of high-end haircare products. With Kerastase, you have many products to choose from in both the areas of cleansing and treatment.
Cleanse: Cleansing refers to washing your hair from all the oil that accumulates during the day. The important part is leave some natural oil in your hair (so your hair doesn’t become dry and brittle), but also cleanse the strands from excess oil so your hair remains clean and silky. Kerastase’s shampoo line includes products such as BainChromaCaptive, a sulfate-free protective shampoo for color-treated hair. Customers can also choose the BainChromaRiche, a protective shampoo designed for drier hair. Thankfully, Kerastase’s shampoo line, unlike most shampoo lines found at the drugstore or supermarket, doesn’t contain harsh chemicals that over-dry your hair. With Kerastase, you can be sure that your hair retains needed moisture while also remaining soft and clean.
Treat: Since shampooing can leave your hair drier, depending on how often you shampoo (remember, don’t shampoo more than every other day!) it is important to treat hair with conditioner. Conditioner ensures that each strand remains silky smooth and soft to the touch. Kerastase has several conditioners that are designed for different hair types. For example, you can choose a conditioner designed for long hair, curly hair, or thinning hair. They also offer Hair Masques. Kerastase has been producing high-quality hair masques for the past 25 years. These nourishing masques deep condition, bringing shine and manageability to even the most dry and brittle hair.
With their long line of shampoos, conditioners, and masques designed to treat any hair type, you are sure to find a Kerastase product that is right for you. Since Kerastase products can only be found exclusively at high-end salons, please stop by Red Market today to purchase these great styling products!

Reynald Ricard, one of the founders and owners of Red Market Miami Salon, takes a few minutes of out his busy schedule to answer a few questions.
Interviewer: So, how did the concept of Red Market Salon originate?
Reynald Ricard: We used to have a salon near Pastis, in the meatpacking district. We were so busy after three months, working from seven pm until very late. Soon, we decided to move to a bigger space. Our time in the meat-packing district was a good experience, we used to have wine and hang out, but we moved because the neighborhood changed. Our first idea was to be in the meatpacking area, so that was a very special experience for our first salon.
Interviewer: Where in France are you from?
Reynald Ricard: From Eastern France. It’s about two hours from Paris, and I grew up all over France.
Interviewer: How old were you when you first decided you wanted to be a hair stylist?
Reynald Ricard: I wanted to be a hair stylist starting when I was seven or eight years old. I used to watch my mom in the salon and she was best friends with the owner there. My father was a general in the army, and very different from her. She was a mentor, and he was supportive. I went to school to learn how to style hair when I was 16 or 17. It was what I always wanted to do. For two years I lived in different cities because of my father’s job. It opened my mind to new places and diverse realities of life.
Interviewer: Who was your first hair model?
Reynald Ricard: In France, I would style my mom, she was my model. It was an amazing experience.
Interviewer: Now that you live in NYC, where do you spend most of your time?
Reynald Ricard: I live in Noho, but I spend most of my time in Soho.
Interviewer: What is your favorite destination?
Reynald Ricard: On the weekend I go to my house in upstate New York. It’s beautiful, my family loves it.
Interviewer: So, you are a family man?
Reynald Ricard: Yes, I have a daughter. She is four years old.
Interviewer: How would you define happiness?
Reynald Ricard: Family is happiness!
Interviewer: What makes you passionate about the world of hair and beauty?
Reynald Ricard: I like the transformation, and I like to see the smile of my clients. It’s important to do a good haircut or a nice color because people get so happy from it. If you lose sight of the happiness of the client, if you work too much, it’s bad. So the happiness of the client is very important.
Interviewer: What is your definition of beauty?
Reynald Ricard: Natural is beauty.
Interviewer: Can you describe your morning routine, and how you get ready for the day?
Reynald Ricard: My daughter wakes me up around 6:30am, and then I go for a run. Two days a week I start work at 9am. I also have barbershops where I work on Greenwich Avenue. So I have very busy mornings, always on the floor. I also have twenty people in Miami working at Red Market Miami. So I am busy!
Interviewer: Did you experience any hardships in being in the hair styling business? And if so, what was that like?
Reynald Ricard: It’s tough every day to have business structure. There are many challenges, especially in New York. It’s always moving and things can be difficult sometimes, but you get through that, and you learn and manage.
Interviewer: What are your hopes for the future? Where do you see Red Market in 5 years?
Reynald Ricard: We already have two salons—one in New York one in Miami. I plan to open something in East Hampton. Candy Udell [of London Jewelers] has been asking me to open something there for years, so we are planning for opening there too.
Interviewer: Lastly, who inspires you most?
Reynald Ricard: My parents are my idols. I hope to be that for my little girl.
