I just had one of the best haircut experiences of my life, thanks in no small part to the hour at which I was able to make my appointment: 8:00 p.m. Red Market Salon in the meatpacking district of New York City is a late-night beauty destination that caters to the long-hour workforce, as well as hard partying night owls. The loft-like space is run by two Frenchmen, who previously worked at lofty Fekkai salons, and is an easy breath of fresh air with lots of open room to wander, fun red swivel chairs and an open bar that serves complimentary wine. Doors typically open at 2:00 p.m. and don’t close until 11:00 p.m. – or until the last strands have been highlighted and blown. Haircuts hover around $100, highlights around $200, but to me, the comfort of knowing I wasn’t a slave to the bright red clock on their wall was priceless.
